It is my pleasure to welcome you to Tallinn FoodFair, which has been promoting one of our greatest assets \u2013 local food \u2013 for many years. It is vital for people to see what Estonian food producers can offer, because clean, homegrown food is not just a privilege \u2013 it is crucial for our health, the environment and food security.<\/p>\n
The world around us is changing rapidly, and we must be prepared to adapt. A key concern today is security, particularly food security. As producers, consumers and policymakers, we must ensure the sustainability of our food system, which requires us to consider its environmental, social, economic and cultural impacts.<\/p>\n
While Estonian consumers would like to buy local food, our producers must compete with imports. Households in Estonia spend a higher percentage of their income \u2013 31% \u2013 on food, beverages and catering than in any other EU country, making price sensitivity an important factor for consumers.<\/p>\n
Recent crises have shown that food production and ensuring a stable food supply are essential to broad-based national security. In this light, it is crucial that Estonia maintain the ability to supply itself with key foodstuffs.<\/p>\n
Tallinn FoodFair is an excellent platform for industry leaders to meet, discover new products and flavours, and discuss the challenges the sector is currently facing. Collaboration and networking are vital. We warmly welcome international exhibitors and visitors, who not only expand our food offerings but also create new export opportunities for Estonian producers.<\/p>\n
Estonian food is clean, healthy and produced in an environmentally friendly manner \u2013 it is our very own Nokia! I would like to thank and commend all Estonian food producers, consumers and, of course, everyone involved in making this event possible.<\/p>\n
